What you will need for this recipe

  • chicken– Breasts, thighs, or drumsticks are the best pieces of chicken. They all cook at about the same time and this marinade will hold those cuts perfectly.
  • lime– Always use freshly squeezed lime juice – the taste just can’t be compared with the stuffed in bottles!
  • garlic– Freshly chopped garlic is a must for any chicken marinade. It perfectly balances out all of the other spices.
  • oregano– Just a pinch.
  • salt and pepper– Taste good.
  • olive oil– An aromatic oil that rounds off the delicious marinade.

How to Make Keto Chicken

Start by placing the chicken breast fillets in a ziplock bag. Next, in a small bowl, whisk all the other ingredients together until they blend. Pour the marinade over the chicken and rub it with your hands. Now put the chicken in the fridge and let it marinate for an hour (no longer than four hours!).

When you’re ready to cook, grill or bake it.

  • grilling– Preheat your grill to medium heat and coat the grill racks with oil. Once hot, add your chicken and cook for 6 minutes, then flip and cook for another 6 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 ° F.
  • to bake– Preheat the oven to 230C / 450F. Place the chicken in a baking dish lined with foil. Bake the chicken without a lid for 12 minutes before turning and cooking another 12 minutes, or until the center is no longer pink and the juices are clear (or the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 ° F).

What are the best pieces of chicken for this recipe?

Chicken breast

Breast fillets are by far the most versatile of all chicken cuts and the leanest parts of chicken. They’re also the most expensive cuts, especially if you go for the skinless option. It has the lowest amount of calories and fat and the highest amount of protein per 100 grams / 4 oz serving.

Chicken legs

Chicken leg fillets are easily the tastiest part of chicken and can be cooked in a number of different ways – skinless, boneless, boneless, or skinless. Its meat is darker than breast fillets and, depending on the size, may require a longer cooking time. Thigh meat contains more fat than breast (approx. 6 grams per 100 grams) but also a lot of protein (20 grams!).

wing

The cheapest part of a chicken, chicken wings, is great for marinating and grilling with all the spices and flavors. Like chicken leg fillets, wings have a higher fat content, which makes them extra juicy and tender.

Drumsticks

Another affordable and versatile part of the chicken, drumsticks are coming out and have darker meats too. They can be used in place of breast and thigh fillets and when cooked with the skin on, they stay crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

What Kind of Chicken is Best for Keto?

While all chickens are keto-friendly, it all depends on whether you prefer white meat or dark meat and what recipe you are making. Chicken breast fillets and chicken legs are perhaps the most versatile and have a similar cook time. They can also be used interchangeably in recipes.
