Is There a Best Time to Exercise for Weight Loss, Gaining Muscle, or Health? Are Morning or Evening Workouts Better? Here’s what you need to know in order to make the best decision for your personal goals and lifestyle.

Is it better to exercise early in the morning or when you get home from work? Is lunchtime the best time? Or is it OK after dinner? What about just before bed?

Here’s the short answer: the best time to exercise depends on your personal preferences and lifestyle. No matter what time in your life you break a sweat and work hard…. this is the best time!

In other words, let’s say science says that exercising at 4 a.m. will burn more calories. But 4am isn’t really an option for you … so you skip your workouts as often as you do them. Is this “best” time really the best for you? Probably not.

Your “best” time to exercise is whenever you can get through workout after workout, week after week, month after month!

That said, you can be a little strategic about tackling workouts at certain times of the day. So let’s compare the benefits of different times of the day and work on making your “best” exercise time even better!

How to get the most out of your morning workout

If you’re struggling with excuses or consistency, morning may be your best time to exercise. Once you get used to setting your alarm a little earlier, you can start the rest of the day knowing that your workout is done and out of the way!

An early morning workout can also set the tone for a healthier day, making it easier for you to stick to your meal plan and energizing you for the day.

However, if you want to exercise in the morning, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Many of the V Shred workouts that people love most are high-intensity interval training, like the ones in Fat Loss Extreme For Men, Fat Loss Extreme For Women, or MOVE. These workouts are best when you are hydrated and have something on your stomach.

You don’t have to eat a lot. If you are eating a full meal, it is probably better to have it digested before your HIIT workout. But you’ll have a better workout, and feel better about it, with some fuel in the tank.

Here are a few great options:

If you are now doing heavy or long exercises, as in our programs CLEAN BULK or RIPPED IN 90 DAYS, we recommend that you eat a meal or two in your stomach.

But here’s the thing: V Shred is all about the minimum effective training dose. It’s pretty rare to find yourself pounding legs for 2 hours, so a solid breakfast, maybe some BCAAs, and of course a pre-workout like PRE should be enough in most cases.

How to get the most out of your afternoon / evening workouts

Many of us are not morning people and have low energy when we wake up. Others barely have time to get the kids up and out of the door, let alone exercise.

If morning isn’t your thing, afternoon or evening exercise may be best. And there are actually many benefits to exercising later in the day.

Your strength, endurance, and flexibility are better after standing up for a while and eating some meals for fuel. Exercise is also a great stress reliever, so exercising after a long day at work is a great way to let off some steam.

A potential downside to training later is that it’s easier to come up with excuses – and a better chance life gets in the way.

The “calendar” tool in your phone can be your best training partner here. If you need to work out later in the day, mark it on your schedule like any other important meeting that you wouldn’t miss!

What about late night workouts? Many people find that exercising too soon before bedtime negatively affects their ability to fall asleep. But that definitely doesn’t apply to all. In fact, some people find that they sleep better after an evening sweat session!

If afternoon or evening workouts are your only option, consider giving preference to herbal supplements that can help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer – like the ones in Sculpt Nation BURN PM.
